I want you to try this one one on for size. Since Mitt Romney and Barack Obama are embroiled in a seemingly endless political ad battle about outsourcing jobs overseas and both seem to agree that outsourcing hurts the American middle class, we have the rare opportunity to get both candidates and their political parties to put their money where their mouth is by having a truly bipartisan effort to end job offshoing. Instead of both candidates and by extension, both parties accusing each other of promoting job outsourcing, let's see the electeds of both parties take immediate concrete steps to curb job offshoring. I want to see President Obama propose trade tariffs on imports to bring manufacturing and jobs back to the USA. I want to see Congress and the Senate write legislation to bring those tariffs to life. I want to see President Obama sign that legislation.
Rest assured, trade tariffs will bring jobs back to the USA in droves because no corporation wants to lose the American people as customers. Foreign corporations will even open factories here to avoid the tariffs only this time they will be paying decent wages because they will be competing with American owned corps. for workers. We will have jobs, jobs, jobs and the American dream will return. What's that? Do I hear murmuring from Republican and Democratic politicians that tariffs won't work because we live in a "global" economy? Well in that case, just keep signing those "free" trade agreements that gave away our jobs in the first place and we will assume that those political ads are just empty campaign rhetoric. We will then elect the customary lesser of two evils and use the next four years to grow an all powerful third party that really listens to working Americans!

In case you didn't realize it, our political system is rigged. Due to the strong advantage our electoral system gives the Democratic/Republican duopoly, getting a third party Presidential candidate elected is virtually impossible. Additionally, the massive “support” both parties receive, overtly via direct contributions and covertly via sock puppet organizations from their corporate, Wall Street and banking backers almost guarantees that corporate oligarch contributors will become America's shadow government. I like to say that one party is owned by wealthy oligarchs and the other party is leased by wealthy oligarchs.
Over the past few years, as it became apparent to me that both parties were not listening to us, I was hoping that a national third party movement would capture the hearts and minds of my fellow working, retired and unemployed Americans who were and are fed up with a corporate run government that ignores the will of the people. For various reasons that I don't want to discuss (because I would have to do a lot of unproductive finger pointing) that never materialized. In any event, the only way that a third party candidate for President could win under the current system is by an overwhelming majority. In other words, in 2012, a third party win has the chance of a fart in a hurricane. Yes folks, once again we have no choice but to vote for the lesser of two evils. No, by saying that I'm not selling you out. Since we know that Democratic compromise with the Republicans is really a thinly veiled tip of their hats to their corporate backers, we must adopt a new strategy. In 2012, our goal should not only be to keep Mitt Romney out of the White House, but to fight to get as many Democrats elected as possible. Let's give the Democrats an overwhelmingly clear majority, that can't be vetoed, so they can't use compromising with the Republicans as an excuse for their actions. At that point, any Democrats who pursue what was formerly the Republican agenda will be officially outed as closet Republicans and subject to our wrath. Should that happen, a third party would look good to most Americans and will win. Don't throw away your vote on the lesser of two evils! We are in the home stretch of yet another election year which happens to be the perfect time to make ourselves heard. Learn how to make your elected listen to you by Visiting my Listen Here! page!
OK, I'm going to say it and I'm not pulling any punches, rational intelligent people vote based on issues that are important to them, sycophantic jerks blindly vote for their party's candidate! If the previous statement seems rather harsh, it's because of some of the nonsense emanating from many of the more fanatical Obama supporters on the social media over the past few days. They have been jumping on any progressive who states that he or she is voting for a third party candidate in 2012 with the accusation that said progressive is dividing the vote for Obama.
Back in 2008, every progressive that voted for Obama, myself included, did so based on his bold campaign promises and soaring speeches. In other words, we voted for the ideals that he stated in his promises and speeches. Obviously, he didn't deliver on most of his promises, he compromised with the Republicans, even in the first few months of his Presidency when the Democrats had a clear majority and he had the momentum of winning the election. To make matters worse, he continued many of the Bush policies that most of us strongly oppose. My philosophy is, if an elected isn't going to do anything for me, he or she had damn well better not do anything to me. In my humble opinion Obama's support of "free" trade agreements makes him almost as unacceptable a candidate for President as the clowns that the Republicans are fielding. My choice is none of the above because in the spirit of 2008, I will be voting for issues, not parties and will be looking for a candidate who truly represents those issues! |
AuthorHave you noticed that there's no one on Talk Radio who speaks for John and Jane Q. Public? I want to change that situation.
